Library Services and Academic Skills Support During COVID-19: Key Information

Library Access

  • The Library (Rutherford Building) is closed until further notice.
  • There will be no staff library enquiry service over the Easter Closure, Thursday 9 April - Tuesday 14 April
  • Senate House Library is also closed, however you can still access their online resources. See the 'Accessing Online Resources' tab for more information and instructions.
  • SCONUL has suspended it's access scheme for other academic libraries until further notice. Please check the SCONUL website and individual library websites for further information. 
  • We have been made aware of a change in Safari which might affect access to your Reading Lists via learn.gold. If you experience problems, it is recommended that you switch to Chrome or Firefox.

Current Loans, Reservations and Inter-Library Loans

  • All on loan items will continuously automatically renew, which means that you won’t get any fines on any items you have borrowed. 
  • You cannot place reservations on physical items of stock or request physical inter-library loans (ILLs) at this time. You can still request articles via the online ILL form and where possible the team will fulfill these requests.
  • All ILLs should have been renewed until May 1st - if you still have an earlier due date on an ILL, please email inter.library.loans@gold.ac.uk and inform them and they can change this for you.
  • You cannot pick up any reservations.
  • We will not be able to complete any reservations that have already been placed on physical items.

Returning Items

If you are leaving the UK or London and don’t intend on coming back then you can return your Library books to us by:

  • Taking them to the security team at RHB. You will need to bring the books in a bag that you don’t need back and ring the bell on the front right-hand door of the building to give them to security. We would ask that you observe social distancing if you need to return your books in this way.
  • Posting books to The Library, Goldsmiths, University of London, New Cross, London, SE14 6NW

Please be aware that books returned or posted to RHB will remain on your Library account until campus reopens. We are currently continuously auto renewing your items, so you will not get fines.

If you are able to keep your books and return them to us at a later date we would encourage you to hold onto them and only return them when the campus has reopened. We are currently continuously auto renewing your items, so you will not get fines.

Book Suggestions

  • You can make suggestions for purchase of eBooks using our online form.
  • Student Library Reps (SLRs) can continue to make purchases as long as they are for eBooks only. Print will be ordered at a later date. Find the contact details for your SLR.
  • Liberate My Degree suggestions will be e-only if available. Print will be ordered at a later date. Find details on how to suggest books on the Liberate My Degree page
