The Library (Rutherford Building) has reopened to offer study spaces and computers as well as a click and collect service for books in the Autumn Term. Below are some details of how you will be able to access the library on campus and what you can expect from the new services and arrangements.
We have been following Government and College guidance and will continue to do this throughout the coming months.This means that our services and hours may change at short notice due to changes in guidance or from supporting NHS Test and Trace. Please check back on our pages regularly for up to date information.
We are also continuing to provide the high-quality Library Services you expect remotely through our e-resources and enquiry service using the LiveChat service and by emailing library@gold.ac.uk Monday - Friday 09:00-18:00 and Saturday and Sunday 13:00 - 18:00.
Instructions
Go to the Library Catalogue.
You will need to be logged in to Library Search to Place a Hold. You can sign in using the 'Sign In' button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
Search for the title you wish to reserve, and click on the title of the item.
This will open the full catalogue record. Click on the box under Locations to open the detailed information for each copy of the text.
If a copy of the text is available in the library, you will see the yellow 'Place Hold' button. Click this.
Goldsmiths Library is the only pickup library available, so if you are ready to place the hold, click the 'Place Hold(s)' button.
If the hold is placed, you will then see a message saying 'Success' as below.
Repeat these steps for each item you want to reserve.
If you try to reserve more than 5 items, you will be unable to and will see a message saying 'User has too many holds' as below.
You can return your Library books to us by:
Please be aware that books returned or posted to RHB will remain on your Library account until they are processed. We are currently continuously auto renewing your items, so you will not get fines.
How to book a study space in the Rutherford Building (Library)
Goldsmiths students and staff can book study space at the Library. You are able to have three four-hour study sessions booked concurrently. Once you have attended a session you will be able to make further bookings.
Sessions are currently:
Monday - Friday 8am - 12pm, 1pm - 5pm and 6pm - 10pm
Saturday and Sunday 1pm - 5pm
When arriving you will need to have your confirmation email and your Goldsmiths card with you to show Security at the entrance.
Book a study session at libcal.gold.ac.uk
If you do not mind which type of space you want to use click Rutherford Building – all seats. Alternatively, select which type of Study Space you would like to reserve.
The different spaces are grouped into Library Study Space, Assistive Technology Centre (ATC), and Library Computers. These are then grouped into different areas. Click which area you would like to reserve a space in.
After this you will be able to able to see individual seats. Clicking the INFO button will bring up detailed information about which power sockets and AV equipment are available, any other miscellaneous information specific to the seat and a photo of the seat’s location.
Once you have chosen your seat you can choose the date and time you would like to make a booking by selecting the ‘Go To Date’ button. Alternatively if you are looking for the next available time slot you can click ‘Next Available’.
Once you have found your ideal timeslot simply click any available slot (in green). Once clicked it will show as orange (your booking).
After clicking Submit Times you will be asked to fill your full name, an email address that ends in @gold.ac.uk and a phone number. This data may be shared with NHS Test and Trace if required. If you are happy with your booking click ‘Submit My Booking’.
You will then receive a confirmation email that you will need to show Security in order to access the Library. You will also need to have your Goldsmiths card with you or you will be not permitted entry.
If you don't have internet access but need to reserve a seat you can call the Library on 020 7919 7189 Monday - Friday 09:00 - 18:00 (19:00 on Wednesday) and 13:00 - 17:00 on Saturday.
Please arrive promptly for your booking as these seats are in high demand. If you need to cancel your booking there is a link to do so in the confirmation email.
We have several safety measures in place to ensure as safe a working environment as possible is maintained in the Library.
You must wear a face covering on campus, including when you are at your seat unless you are exempt from wearing one.
The safety of our students and staff is central to all of our planning. When you are visiting us on campus we expect you to follow college guidance including wearing a face covering and practicing social distancing.
