Library Services and Academic Skills Support During COVID-19: On Campus Library Access Autumn Term

On Campus Library Access

The Library (Rutherford Building) has reopened to offer study spaces and computers as well as a click and collect service for books in the Autumn Term. Below are some details of how you will be able to access the library on campus and what you can expect from the new services and arrangements.

We have been following Government and College guidance and will continue to do this throughout the coming months. This means that our services and hours may change at short notice due to changes in guidance or from supporting NHS Test and Trace. Please check back on our pages regularly for up to date information.

We are also continuing to provide the high-quality Library Services you expect remotely through our e-resources and enquiry service using the LiveChat service and by emailing  Monday - Friday 09:00-18:00 and Saturday and Sunday 13:00 - 18:00.

Click and Collect

  • We now have a Click and Collect service available, which is available to Goldsmiths students and staff.
  • You will be able to reserve 5 items online through Library Search using the 'Place a Hold' function. See the instructions below on how to do this.
  • We will aim to have your items ready for you within 2 working days (Monday - Friday).
  • When your items are ready you will receive a confirmation email and will need to show this and your Goldsmiths Card to staff at the collection point at the side of the Library (Rutherford Building).
  • You will be able to pick up your items Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 11:00 - 14:00, Wednesdays 11:00 - 19:00 and Saturdays 14:00 - 16:30
  • If you don't have internet access but need to reserve items you can call the Library on 020 7919 7189 Monday - Friday 09:00 - 18:00 (and until 19:00 on Wednesday) as well as Saturday 13:00 - 17:00

Go to the Library Catalogue.

You will need to be logged in to Library Search to Place a Hold. You can sign in using the 'Sign In' button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Search for the title you wish to reserve, and click on the title of the item.

This will open the full catalogue record. Click on the box under Locations to open the detailed information for each copy of the text.

If a copy of the text is available in the library, you will see the yellow 'Place Hold' button. Click this.

Goldsmiths Library is the only pickup library available, so if you are ready to place the hold, click the 'Place Hold(s)' button.

If the hold is placed, you will then see a message saying 'Success' as below.

Repeat these steps for each item you want to reserve.

If you try to reserve more than 5 items, you will be unable to and will see a message saying 'User has too many holds' as below.

Returning Items

You can return your Library books to us by:

  • Taking them to the drop box at the front of the Library (Rutherford Building) Monday - Friday 09:00 - 22:00 and 13:00 - 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Taking them to the security team at RHB when the Library drop box is not accessible . You will need to bring the books in a bag that you don’t need back and ring the bell on the front right-hand door of the building to give them to security. We would ask that you observe social distancing if you need to return your books in this way.
  • Posting books to The Library, Goldsmiths, University of London, New Cross, London, SE14 6NW

Please be aware that books returned or posted to RHB will remain on your Library account until they are processed. We are currently continuously auto renewing your items, so you will not get fines.
