eBooks: MyiLibrary eBooks

A guide to using the library's eBook collections.

MyiLibrary eBooks

The library offers some content via the MyiLibrary platform.  Some MyiLibrary eBooks are available for download; others are only available to read online.

If you are off-campus you will be taken to the following login screen. Under institution access select “UK Access Management Federation".

On the next page select “Goldsmiths College Library” from the alphabetical list. You will then need to log in via Shibboleth using your campus username and password (i.e. the password you use for email and the VLE).

After logging in you will be usually be taken straight into the eBook in read online mode.

Read Online mode

In Read Online mode you can scroll between pages using the right and left arrows at the top of the page. You can also navigate within the book by clicking on the TOC (table of contents) options on the left hand side of the screen, using the Search option to find a particular word or phrase, or by typing a page number into the “Go to page” box. The +/- buttons in the top right hand corner can be used to zoom in and out.

Printing from MyiLibrary eBooks

MyiLibrary Read Online mode will allow you to print a limited proportion of the eBook by clicking on the printer icon on the right hand side of the screen. A window will open displaying your print allowance for that book. You can then enter the page range you wish to print.

Using the notes feature on MyiLibrary

In order to use the notes feature on MyiLibrary you need to create a MyiLibrary account. Follow the “Login to My Account” link on the left hand side of the screen. You will then prompted to create an account, or log in if you have an account already.

Once you are logged in to your MyiLibrary account you will be able to use the “Add/View a note" feature. There is an option to print your saved notes.

Downloading MyiLibrary eBooks on a PC or MAC

Not all MyiLibrary eBooks are available to download. If an eBook is available for download, you will see an “Add to Bookshelf for Download” button in the left hand side panel.

There are 2 important steps before downloading MyiLibrary eBooks on a PC/MAC:

1. You will need to install a program called Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, and create a free account called Adobe ID when prompted. Adobe Digital Editions can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html

2. You will also need to create a MyiLibrary account. When you click the “Add to Bookshelf for Download” button you will then prompted to create a MyiLibrary account, or log in if you have an account already.

Once you are logged in to your MyiLibrary account you will see the words “Title was added to Bookshelf” on the left hand side panel. Click on this to go to your Bookshelf.

On your Bookshelf page you will see the eBooks you have added to your account for downloading. Using the down-up list, choose how many days you would like to download the eBook for and click “Download”. In most cases there is an option to download for up to 3 days, although some eBooks many have shorter download periods.

Your eBook will then start to download.

The downloaded eBook should automatically open in Adobe Digital Editions. If this does not happen launch Adobe Digital Editions, click “File / Add to Library” and find the eBook within your computer’s downloads folder (change the file type from "E-books" to "Adobe Content Server Message"). You will be prompted to create an Adobe ID account, or enter your login details if you already have an Adobe ID.

Please note: It is not possible to print or copy from the downloaded version of a MyiLibrary eBook.
