I am a study skills tutor working in the Academic and Subject Support Team. I work offering one- to -one tutorials and Academic Support Team Workshops.
I have always believed in study skills. Since my first degree, a BA in Literature and Media, I realised that if I practice certain study skills then I will get better. I continued to develop my study strategies on my MA and Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (OTLS).
I specialise in finding specific study skills to help students in all areas of their studies. For example: Reading; writing; note-taking; concentrating; time management; exam strategies; presentations and any other study related issues the student may have.
I guess I’m a kind of coach/mentor in a way but for a very short period. In as little as one session, I try to find out what the student wants to acheive, and then give them the strategies to go out practice and reach their potential.
That is what I like about my Job, I design study skills strategies to help students ‘learn how to learn’.
