Games Library Week 2018: Game Jam

A week of games events hosted in Goldsmiths Library from 5th-9th November

Games Jam Theme

Explore a Book

Books tell stories, and maybe you want your game to tell the same story. But maybe you want to explore beyond the content - perhaps you'll explore

  • the book's cover
  • the smell of its old pages
  • the excitement of a pop-up book
  • the marks left on the pages by readers in years gone by
  • the strange arrangement of words on a page of concrete poetry

Use this chance to look at a book in a new light!

Explore the collection of books at Goldsmiths Library. Come in person, or explore virtually through the online collection (see links below). Choose a single book or skip through a collection. Work alone or in a team. In London, or anywhere in the world!

Games submitted will be showcased in the Goldsmiths Library and will form a key part of the celebration of International Games Week, Games in Libraries final conference on Friday 9th November.

What is a Games Jam?

A game jam is a challenge to create a game in a set amount of time. A theme is provided then people taking part have a limited amount of time (sometimes as short as 24 hours!) to create a game round that theme. Sometimes co-located, sometimes spread across the world, Games Jams encourage individuals or teams of people to rapidly prototype and create a whole game! Sometimes a little rough around the edges, the games produced highlight the creativity and ingenuity that is possible in a short period of time.

What is great about a Game Jam is that everyone is under time pressure, so there’s no need to be precious about what you create. Just get it out there! It also allows you to work as a team, so if you’re shaky on coding but love designing puzzles, pair up with someone who needs your type of skills!

Get Involved

Anyone can join in to create a game for the jam.

Goldsmiths Students and Staff can attend workshops that will help you develop your game idea and use some simple tools to make your game prototype a reality
