When using Library Search to find articles it's always best to sign in to your library account as this will improve search results.
Just click 'Sign in', this will take you to Goldsmiths Sign In page. This log in should be the same as for other Goldsmiths platforms, e.g. the VLE, your email, etc. If you have trouble logging in look for the 'LiveChat is online' box at the side of the page or contact the helpdesk
Library Search is a better place to find articles than Google Scholar as it knows what we have access to through our subscriptions at Goldsmiths. It also has an option to 'Include results from other libraries' if you want to expand your search and will show you how to access materials from other libraries.
To limit your search results to only include online articles use the drop-down menu. You can search for an exact title if you know the article you're looking for, or a combination of keywords as below.
Tip: If you put a term in quotation marks only results including that exact phrase will be returned.
You can also use Advanced Search functions or start with basic search terms and use the 'Refine my results' options to the right of the page to filter your results. For example, you may only want peer-reviewed articles or articles which have been recently published.
When you have found the result you want click on the 'Full text available' link to access it.
This will take you to a page which generates a link directly to your article. You may see more than one option but the article will still be the same.
When you are working off-campus you'll be asked to log in to view the article.
When you are working off-campus you need to log in using your Goldsmiths username (e.g. jblog001) and password to access our electronic resources. If you're using Library Search you should be prompted to do this automatically and will see a login page like this:
If you found something outside of Library Search or aren't prompted to login you should take the following steps:
If you have trouble logging in look for the 'LiveChat is online' box in Library Search or contact the helpdesk.
If you need any guidance or support while using Library Search to find articles and resources you can speak to a librarian any time you see the green LibraryChat is online box to the right-hand side of the screen.
If you click on a link that doesn't work or took you somewhere you didn't expect then you can use a link on the grey menu page (see below) to let us know. We're usually able to get back to you within an hour.
